SEREMBAN: The Negeri Sembilan government today presented the 2024 Budget amounting to RM555 million with an estimated revenue of RM520 million and a development budget of RM140 million.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun when presenting the budget themed ‘Together Build a MADANI State’ said the focus of the budget was on nine cores in the Aspiration of Negeri Sembilan Unity and the People’s Prosperity Scheme.
It includes economy, investment and infrastructure; education and human capital; people’s well-being and agriculture.
“The proposed 2024 budget is a deficit budget of RM35 million. Total revenue is expected at RM520 million, which is an increase of RM70 million or 15.55 percent compared to RM450 million in the previous year.
“This is the first budget after the formation of the Unity Government last August. We are determined to make Negeri Sembilan a model of a developed, united, civilized state, as well as a peaceful and prosperous life for the people,” he said when presenting the budget at the Third (Budget) Conference of the First Term of the House The 15th State Assembly (DUN) is here.
From the estimated revenue amounting to RM520 million, tax revenue collection was as much as RM160.01 million or 30.77 percent compared to RM159.84 million recorded during the previous year.
He who is also the Member of Parliament for Port Dickson said non-tax revenue continues to be the main contributor with an estimate of RM300.24 million (57.74 percent) which is an increase of RM72.28 million from RM227.96 million, last year.
However, Aminuddin said non-revenue receipts are expected to experience a slight decrease of RM2.45 million to RM59.75 million this year compared to the RM62.2 million witnessed previously, due to the decrease in estimated tourism tax receipts from the Federal Government.
In the meantime, he said that for next year, a total of 284 projects have been considered for development purposes involving 220 new projects and 64 extension projects or existing projects.
Meanwhile, the state government also announced special financial assistance of a month and a half salary or a minimum of RM2,500 to approximately 6,662 civil servants in the state which will be paid twice, at the end of February in preparation for schooling and at the end of March ahead of Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
It is hoped that the special financial assistance will inspire all civil servants to work even harder, he said.
