JPS Requested Level Of Frequency Of River Cleaning In Negeri Sembilan – Exco

SEREMBAN, Sept 28 (Bernama) — The Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS) has been asked to increase the frequency of the river cleaning process in Negeri Sembilan so that the water source is always in good condition thus avoiding any risk of pollution.

State Entrepreneurship, Human Resources, Climate Change, Cooperatives and Consumerism Committee Chairman S. Veerapan said it was also to ensure incidents like the one in Sungai Gedok, Gemencheh where the water changed color recently did not happen again.

“This is because the matter can trigger a state of panic among the community. Shared responsibility between government agencies and local residents is necessary to maintain the cleanliness of the river which is the main source of the country’s water service,” he said in a statement today.

In the meantime, he said following reports from the public about the Gedok River, several locations in the area were investigated, including at the Ampang Batu Recreational Park where the water was cloudy, there was no dead fish and there was no smell in addition to an inspection 500 meters from the first location where a dead fish was found. river water has no smell other than a slightly black color.

Veerapan said that an inspection at other nearby locations also found that the water was not moving because there were obstructions of trees on the banks of the river or bushes causing the water to be black.

He said the sample collection process had been carried out to be sent to the Malaysian Chemical Department, Melaka for further action.

Yesterday, the media reported that residents, especially farmers around the area, expressed concern as the water in the Gemenceh River turned black and risked affecting their crops.
