JPS Negeri Sembilan Builds, Upgrades Seven Paddy Field Irrigation Schemes

KUALA PILAH: A total of seven irrigation schemes for rice cultivation under the supervision of the Negeri Sembilan Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS) are currently in the process of construction and upgrading.

State DPS Director, Ir. Saari Abdullah said that the project through the allocation through the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry aims to ensure that the country’s food security is always maintained.

“The Terachi scheme is one of the most noteworthy of all the rice irrigation schemes in Negeri Sembilan. There are 14 small irrigation schemes with an area of ​​2,065 hectares in Negeri Sembilan of which 12 irrigation schemes are still active with rice planting activities.

“Currently, seven irrigation schemes that are under the supervision of the state DPS are being implemented to upgrade the irrigation infrastructure including the Terachi Batu 14 Irrigation Scheme where the Ngoca Site, Terachi Cultural Village is located,” he said.

He said this to reporters after the Ngoca Tug of War Festival program in conjunction with the 2022 World River Day Celebration Negeri Sembilan at Tapak Ngoca, Terachi Cultural Village here today which was also attended by the Minister Besar, Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.

Meanwhile, Saari said, the Ngoca Tug of War Festival was held to recall the nostalgia of the traditional activity of ‘mengoca’ which is catching fish by hand in the paddy fields which is synonymous with the people of this district.
