TAMPIN: The flooding that occurred throughout Negeri Sembilan since last Tuesday was caused by the phenomenon of high tides, especially in the Port Dickson area. Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said, the continuous rain for four hours on Saturday also triggered the flood which affected the residents’ homes.
“However, the Negeri Sembilan Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS) has been asked to look into this problem (flooding) so that it does not happen again,” he said. Earlier Aminuddin was present at the Convocation Ceremony of Khatam Hafaz Al-Quran and the 13th Excellence Award for the Negeri Sembilan Al Quran Tahfiz Institute on Sunday.
On Saturday, four temporary evacuation centers (PPS) were opened in Port Dickson involving Dewan Bagan Pinang, Balai Raya Permatang Pasir, Balai Raya, Balai Raya Tanjung Agas and Balai Raya Kampung Sungai Raya.
According to the Port Dickson District Civil Defense Officer, Captain (PA) Mohd Azri Abu Hassan, a total of 37 houses were affected involving 111 victims placed in the four PPS.
“The highest tide level recorded here was last Friday with a height of 3.2 meters,” he said when contacted on Sunday.
