Danger Warning In Several Rivers In Negeri Sembilan And Johor – PRABN

KUALA LUMPUR – Several major rivers in Negeri Sembilan and Johor are predicted to rise and exceed the danger level starting around 3pm to 9pm tonight.

As a result, several low-lying areas within five kilometres of the rivers will experience flooding, said the PRABN of JPS Malaysia.

“A total of four rivers in the Tampin district, Negeri Sembilan are involved, including around Sungai Gemas in Kampung Tiong, Sungai Muar in Kampung Londah, Sungai Gemenceh on Jalan Gemas-Rompin and Sungai Pador in Felda Jelai.

“As for Johor, a total of five rivers are affected involving the Johor Bahru district, namely in Sungai Tebrau, Taman Sri Pandan, the Kota Tinggi district involving Sungai Johor and Sungai Pungai.

“Meanwhile, in the Muar district involving Sungai Muar, Kampung Olak Sepam and in the Pontian district, Sungai Pulai in Kampung Ulu Pulai,” he said in a statement today.

He added that the warning was issued to enable residents in affected areas to be vigilant and comply with the instructions of the authorities or flood disaster management agencies.

The Northeast Monsoon (MTL) is expected to reach its peak at the end of this month, with high rainfall along the Malaysia-Thailand border, as well as states on the east coast, as well as Sabah and Sarawak.

MetMalaysia Director-General Dr Mohd Hisham Mohd Anip said that during that period, the states in question were expected to receive rainfall between 20 and 40 percent higher than normal.

He said that for states in the Peninsula, the period would start from the end of November until early January, while in Sabah and Sarawak it was expected to last until February or March.
