Allocation of RM0.5 Million to Overcome Floods in Labu

SEREMBAN: The Negeri Sembilan Government and the Federal Government through the Negeri Sembilan Irrigation and Drainage Department have allocated as much as RM500,000 to carry out maintenance works involving Jalan Panglima Bridge 1, Mile 9, Bank Conservation in Sungai Batang Labu, Kampung Pasir and works drainage conservation in Kampung Lambar and Kampung Gadong.

Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar, YAB Dato’ Seri Utama Aminuddin Harun (PH-Sikamat) said that the Seremban District and Land Office, Department of Irrigation and Drainage and Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) have identified the flash floods in Labu Area as being caused by sewerage issues and the blocked tributaries of Sungai Batang Labu and Sungai Jerangkang.

“The Negeri Sembilan Irrigation and Drainage Department through the Malaysian Irrigation and Drainage Department is planning to carry out a detailed study of the Batang Labu River Flood Mitigation Plan where this detailed study is expected to be started by the consultant in the middle of 2024.

“This flash flood issue is expected to be overcome with small works to upgrade sewers and maintain the flow of tributaries.

“Accordingly, PDTS is in the process of applying for sewer upgrade allocations through Federal Government allocations.

“The Negeri Sembilan Foundation project has received a proposal from the State Government to complete the catchment pond immediately so that the flood does not happen again.

“The State Government has also requested that a Pumpkin Flood Mitigation Plan be prepared from the Federal Government because it involves high costs because it involves private lands,” said Aminuddin.

Aminuddin said this in response to questions from Labu assemblyman, YB Mohamad Hanifah Abu Baker (PN) at the First Session (Inauguration) of the Second Term, 15th State Legislative Assembly.
